The definition of Wedding Day Management to K & A Events
The name "Wedding Day Management" can be misleading, people often picture a planner who simply turns up on the day, or the day before, and works it all out. Kate has the experience to do exactly that, and she could problem-solve her way through most things. But that doesn't make it the right way to do it.
A wedding isn't just one of the most important days of your life, for most couples it's a significant investment too. That's why K & A Events costs a little more than a last-minute service: booking early means we already know your wedding inside out by the time it arrives, so nothing is left to chance. Think of it less as a cost, and more as insurance on your day.
You don't need us to plan your whole wedding, and you'll keep talking to your own suppliers throughout. What booking early gives us is time: time to guide you as you plan, and to catch issues before they become problems, rather than discovering them once it's too late to fix.

“Kate suggested things we hadn’t even thought of, including important questions to ask suppliers, working out wine and drinks requirements, how the bar should be managed, timing of the day etc and much more.
On the actual day Kate coordinated the event to the highest degree … This meant that all we needed to do was enjoy the day.”

Meet Kate
Kate brings a unique blend of hands-on experience and technical expertise to wedding planning. Having grown up immersed in the world of weddings through her family business, Bakerwood, from a young age, it's all she's ever known. As a child, she helped her father build marquees while her mother prepared the food for that weekend's wedding, and she ran front of house on the day. Logistics became her particular interest: staffing, travel plans, the accounts, and later, site visits with clients to work through marquee designs.
K & A Events is a new chapter, built on everything she learned there: what makes a marquee work, and what it takes to pull a wedding day together.
Marquee weddings are her speciality, however she is also happy to manage weddings at other venues.
The A in K & A is Adam, Kate's husband. He runs his own business, Classic Chambers, and often helps on wedding days. He looks after the outdoor jobs behind the scenes, such as car parking and coordinating with suppliers, so Kate can stay with you. When the weather turns, he is the one out in it in his wellies.
“From the first time I met with Kate she was professional but supportive and approachable …
She gave advice when asked, gave suggestions about things I may not have thought about but was always tactful and well informed …
Throughout the whole of our business relationship I felt confident Kate would deliver and at no stage was I let down.”
Across Cumbria and the Lake District, Newcastle and the North East, and Dumfries and Galloway and the rest of South Scotland. If you are just outside, get in touch and we will let you know.
Do you only plan marquee weddings?
Marquees are our speciality. We are also happy to manage weddings at other venues.
How much does it cost?
Every wedding is different, so the final price depends on your guest numbers, location, number of suppliers, number of event days and the level of support you need. You can see our starting prices on our Investment page, and we give you a clear quote after your consultation.
Why does Wedding Day Management need to be booked early?
We need to understand your wedding, suppliers, timings and logistics before we take responsibility for the day. Booking early lets us spot problems while they are still easy to fix.
What is the live planning portal?
It's a shared online space for you and your wedding, one login where we both stay on the same page. You'll be able to see your guest list broken down by group and RSVP status, track your budget against what's actually been spent, follow a timeline built around your wedding date, and build a seating plan together. Guests can RSVP and share dietary requirements digitally, so nothing gets lost in emails or spreadsheets. It's included with both packages, at no extra cost.
What overall wedding budget do we need to work with you?
We're happy to talk this through openly at your consultation. As a guide, it's often easier to think in terms of budget per guest rather than one fixed total, since every wedding is different. We'd suggest starting from around £750 per guest, with a minimum of 30 guests. A wedding for 100 guests, for example, often sits around £75,000 and upwards, and a smaller wedding of 30 can sometimes work with less overall, although not always per head. Things like a band, wedding car or photographer often cost much the same whatever your guest numbers, so a smaller wedding can sometimes cost more per guest, not less. Our planning fees begin from £1,800.
Are you insured?
Yes. We hold both public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance.
How does booking suppliers work?
We find suppliers we think are suitable and arrange a quote. Once you're happy, you're sent the invoice and contract to sign directly. We don't pay any suppliers on your behalf, and we don't sign contracts ourselves, the liability stays with you as the client.
Do you get commission for recommending suppliers?
No. We don't take commission from any supplier we recommend. We only suggest people we've worked with before and genuinely trust to deliver, and whose style and standards suit yours. It isn't that other suppliers are bad, it's that we hold our recommendations to the standard we'd want for our own wedding.
The one exception is table linen, where we add a 10% handling fee. This covers taking delivery of the linen, checking it over, and posting it back to the supplier. Every wedding's linen needs are different, so it's simpler to add this as its own cost rather than build it into the package price.
What will I still need to do, even with Full Wedding Planning?
Full Wedding Planning means we take on the bulk of the organising, working closely with you throughout to make sure everything reflects what you want. We'll still check in, ask questions, and send you plans and ideas to approve along the way. There's also work that only you can really do: managing your own guest list, planning the ceremony itself, choosing your wedding attire, and knowing your own guests and family in a way we never will. Small personal touches, like confetti or flip-flops for the dance floor, are also things we'd ask you to arrange.
What parts of the day don't you get involved with?
A couple of things we keep clear of, by design. We keep the ceremony itself fairly private to you as a couple, so we don't take on direct contact with your vicar, registrar or celebrant, though we're always happy to offer guidance. We also don't get involved with getting ready, such as helping the bride into her dress, our focus stays on making sure the rest of the day is running to plan.
What is it like to work with Kate?
Honest, above all. Kate takes your ideas and vision seriously, and builds around them, but if something doesn't sit right, she'll say so, usually because she's seen it play out before, either brilliantly or not quite as planned.
She trusts her gut, and it's usually right. When she hasn't listened to it in the past, it's a decision that's come back to bite her, so she's learned to speak up. She can seem relaxed, and it may look like little is happening, but there's a great deal of thinking and emailing going on behind the scenes. That groundwork, the nitty-gritty most couples never need to see, is exactly what you're paying for: it saves you time, and it's where her experience really shows.
She also follows your lead. Some couples want to hand everything over, others enjoy the process and like to get stuck into a bit of the admin themselves, and she's happy to work either way.
What happens on the free consultation call?
We talk through your date, guest numbers and ideas, and you can ask us anything. There is no obligation to book.
“It was a joy from start to finish … Kate made it happen just in the way [they] had wanted it and more.
The logistics were complicated and some of the requests were a logistical nightmare but Kate is extremely positive (and calming!) and she assured us everything was possible. It was.
Kate was super-efficient throughout and nothing was too much trouble … Most importantly, Kate never stopped smiling.”
